UN, Japanese envoys arrive in Sri Lanka



 United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, B. Lynn Pascoe is to arrive in Sri Lanka today (16) for a two-day visit.
Pascoe is scheduled to hold talks with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, other senior government officials, representatives of opposition and minority party including Tamil leaders as well as media representatives and civil society groups during his visit.

The Under-Secretary-General is also expected to meet with UN Resident Coordinator Neil Buhne and the UN Country Team in Sri Lanka.
His visit is a part of the UN's continuing attention to post-war challenges facing the country, the UN said.
Meanwhile, Representative of the Government of Japan for Peace Building, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction in Sri Lanka, Yasushi Akashi arrived in Colombo Tuesday for a six day visit.
During his visit, which is Akashi's 20th visit to the country, the envoy is scheduled to meet with government and opposition representatives and officials.
The Japanese Embassy in Colombo said Akashi is to meet IDPs in Vavuniya and to visit resettlement villages in Vanni. He is also to attend a few ceremonies associated with projects for IDPs in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka assisted by Japan.
