Tamil Nadu Chief Minister asks Indian Premier to discuss rehabilitation of war displaced with Sri Lankan President

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has asked the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss issues of rehabilitation of war-displaced Tamils and formulation of a permanent political settlement with the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his visit to New Delhi, the Indian media reported.

The Times of India quoting a letter to Singh on Saturday from Karunanidhi states that nearly 80,000 Tamils were still living in transit camps in the island nation awaiting rehabilitation by the Sri Lankan government.
Karunanidhi had reminded that the Rajapaksa government had promised to rehabilitate all Tamils by December 2009.
"Those families and who have been rehabilitated and settled elsewhere need to be provided with economic development and justice-based reconciliation to work towards a permanent political settlement," he has said.
Rajapaksa is due to arrive in New Delhi on Tuesday, amidst a fresh campaign in Tamil Nadu against the Sri Lankan government's alleged war crimes in the last weeks of the war that ended in May 2009.
