Sri Lanka Navy brings home 22 fishermen released from India


Sri Lanka Navy yesterday brought home 22 Sri Lankan fishermen released from Indian custody on Monday (21).

The fishermen have been detained by the Indian authorities for venturing into Indian territorial waters.
Indian Coast Guard Ship "Vikram" handed over the fishermen who are residents of Gandara, Devundara and Matara, to Sri Lankan Navy officials at the Indo-Sri Lanka International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) in the seas north of Kankasanthurai.
Sri Lanka Naval Ship "Edithara II" brought the fishermen to the KKS Harbour yesterday evening snd provided them with food and required assistance. The Navy provided transport facilities for the fishermen up to Medawachchiya on their return home.
Sri Lankan Government, Ministry of Fisheries, and the Sri Lanka Navy have been in discussions with the Indian authorities to secure the early release of the strayed fishermen.
