Sri Lanka Army to establish permanent Army formations in the North and East

Sri Lanka Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya has said that steps are being taken to establish permanent Army formations in the North and East.


He has said that troops on duty would even be provided with permanent houses in those areas.
According to the official website of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General Jayasuriya had made this comment after meeting the Maha Nayake Thera of the Malwatta Chapter the most Ven. Thibottuwawe Sri Sumangala and the Anu Nayake Thera of the Malwatta Chapter, Ven. Dr. Niyangoda Vijitha Thera in Kandy yesterday (26).
"Army personnel arriving in those areas for duty are to be provided permanent houses and allowed to engage in cultivation work if they so desire. A large segment of the Army, including the Engineer Services are constructing highways, bridges, houses, factories, etc in those areas and this will save a lot of money for the government," the Army Commander was quoted.
The Commander had also paid a visit to the most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddarakkitha Maha Nayake Thera of the Asgiriya chapter.
