The Norwegian government has said that it supports the United Nations panel of experts on Sri Lanka. Norwegian Minister for International Development Eric Solheim has told a group of Sri Lankan journalists visiting Norway that the country supports the appointment of the three-member UN panel to look into alleged human rights violations in Sri Lanka.
He had further called for a political solution in Sri Lanka following the end of the war with the separatist Tamil Tiger rebels last year.
The Norwegian Minister had observed that a permanent solution is a must for the economic development desired by Sri Lanka.
Solheim had also explained that there will be no room for any violence or a resumption of war as the struggle now is for a political solution.
