A group of Sri Lankans on a fast unto death on top of the Sigiriya rock fortress

A group of three persons have launched a fast unto death atop the Sigiriya Rock fortress in Sri Lanka today (22) calling on the authorities to protect the historical site.

The local media claims that two out of the three persons who are on the fast are affiliated to a group called the Organization to protect Sigiriya. The other protestor is reportedly a resident from Kandy.
The protestors have demanded for the institution of legal action against those responsible for issuing permits for the construction of lavatories and cafes within the Sigiriya premises.
They have also demanded that Sigiriya, which is controlled by the Central Cultural Fund, be taken under the purview of the Archeological Department.
