Sri Lanka's former Army commander and current legislator General (Retd.) Sarath Fonseka will soon be indicted for committing financial fraud in military arms deals, the Attorney General's department informed the courts today.
The counsel for Attorney General has informed Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court today that, indictments against the former Army Chief over the alleged financial fraud in HiCorp arms deal will be filed soon.
General Fonseka who is in military custody was produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate this morning over the Hicorp arms deal case.
State Counsel Damith Thotawatta informed the court that there is sufficient evidence against the suspect and indictments against the suspect under the Penal Code and the Public Property Act will be filed in the High Court before the next hearing.
Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratna also ordered the State Counsel to serve indictments as soon as possible.
Agreeing to a request made by the counsels of both parties, the Magistrate agreed that the retired General must be kept under military custody as sending him to a remand prison may endanger his life.
Fonseka was further remanded till June 28th.
