Veteran Sri Lankan film producer and director released without any charges

Veteran Sri Lankan film producer and director Chandran Rutnam was released without any charges against him by the Gangodawila Magistrate today (31).

Rutnam was arrested by the police on Saturday (29) night for allegedly possessing explosive materials at his former residence in Nugegoda.
According to the police, Rutnam was arrested since he had failed to produce the special clearance obtained by him from the Defence Ministry to produce the movie Road to Elephant Pass.
However, he was released after producing the relevant license in court today.
Rutnam who started his movie career with the British director Sir David Lean, has worked with the American movie producers George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.
