Sri Lanka court orders suspension of ex-Army commander's court-martial

Sri Lanka Court of Appeal on Monday issued an interim order to suspend the proceeding of first court-martial against former Army commander and parliamentarian General (Retd.) Sarath Fonseka until May 21.
The court ordered the first military tribunal halt its proceedings until a decision is reached on the validity of the military proceedings.
The first court-martial for the General's alleged involvement in political activities while in active service was to resume hearing on May 5.
The President of the Court of Appeal Sathya Hettige has dissented from the majority decision.

Meanwhile, Fonseka, through his lawyer has informed that he is unable to attend the second court-martial proceedings scheduled for tomorrow as he will be attending the parliament sessions.
