A French de-miner of the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD) has been killed in an accidental mine blast on Monday morning in Northern Sri Lanka.
The Geneva, Switzerland-based non governmental organization clearing mines in the war-battered land said Dominique "Momo" Morin, was tragically killed by an uncontrolled explosion.
In a statement the FSD said Dominique, 54, has worked for the organization and other operators for many years.
"He has trained hundreds of national de-miners and protected them from accidents by his very professional training and supervision. It therefore is cynical and tragic that Dominique died from injuries sustained from the accidental detonation of an explosive device," the statement said.
Two members of the group's national also had been injured and are receiving treatment, the de-mining organization said.
