Sri Lanka President observes New Year traditions


Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa this morning participated in the Sinhala and Tamil New Year (Aluth Avurudu) tradition of oil anointing at the historic Raja Maha Vihara in Tissamaharama.
Ven. Dr. Devalegama Dammasena Mahanayaka Thera anointed the traditional herbal oils on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the auspicious time of 10:06 a.m.
Former Ministers Tissa Karaliyadda, Chamal Rajapaksa, Rohitha Abeygunawardana, and Mahinda Yapa Abeygunawardana were also present at the occasion.
President Rajapaksa observed New Year traditions yesterday at his ancestral home at Medamulana in Weerakatiya.

Here President is seen paying obeisance to his elder brother former Minister Chamal Rajapaksa in keeping with the traditions. First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, President's son MP-elect Namal Rajapaksa and his brother Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa were also present.
Later, in keeping with tradition of observing monetary exchange, the President dealt with the People's Bank branch of Tangalle.
