Sri Lanka Foreign and Defence ministries worked together to nab KP Gotabhaya

Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said yesterday that the extradition of LTTE financier Kumaran Padmanathan aka KP would never have been possible without the ministries of Defence and Foreign Affairs working together.

Addressing the Kotte SLFP balamandalaya , Rajapaksa said Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama had played a pivotal role in the negotiations leading to the arrest and extradition of the key terrorist.

He said that one of the major drawbacks in Sri Lanka s anti-terrorism effort had been the failure on the part of the Defence and Foreign Ministries to adopt a joint approach.

He said the Foreign Minister had represented Sri Lanka s interests abroad, though some expected him to bat for the international community.

In the run-up to tomorrow s general election, the Defence Secretary addressed a series of meetings in support of UPFA candidates.
