President opens Sri Lanka Army exhibition

Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today participated in the opening ceremony of the Army Exhibition at the BMICH commemorating the Sri Lanka Army's 60th anniversary.

The exhibition displays the massive weapon caches recovered by the army troops from the LTTE during and after the final stages of the military offensive against the rebels.

A stage play reenacted the Mavil Aru Humanitarian Mission in the East in 2006, The operation was carried out to secure Mavil Aru sluice gates and restore drinking water supply for 30,000 people whose water supply was cut off by the LTTE.

The exhibition is open for the public from 12:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. today and it will be open for the public from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. each day from October 4 to 7.

Ven. Elle Gunawansa, Secretary to President Lalith Weeratunga, Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, CDS General Sarath Fonseka, Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Roshan Gunathilake, IGP Jayantha Wickramarathna, Minister of Resettlement Rishad Bathiyudeen, Chairman of Tharunyata Hetak movement Namal Rajapaksa participated in the event.
