Obama meets city mayors on gun violence

US President Barack Obama today met mayors of three towns, including that of Oak Creek where six Sikhs were gunned down by a white supremacist, as part of his efforts to curb rampant gun violence in the country. Obama and Vice President Joe Biden met with representatives from the Major Cities Chiefs Association and Major County Sheriffs Association to "discuss the common-sense policies the President put forward last month that would reduce gun violence in communities across America," a White House announcement said.

Barack Obama invites Indra Nooyi for consultations on economy

US President Barack Obama has invited at least three Indian-Americans, including PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi, as part of his wider consultations with leaders from business, labour, civic community and Congress on the current economic crisis. Neera Tandon, president of the Centre for American Progress, an eminent US think-tank based in Washington and Deepak Bhargava from the Centre for Community Change are the other Indian-Americans to have been invited by Obama for consultations, a White House official said.

Obama nominates Indian-American Sri Srinivasan to second highest court in US

US President Barack Obama on Monday nominated India-born legal luminary Srikanth Srinivasan to the Federal Court of Appeals, the highest ever judicial appointment of an Indian-American in the U.S and a powerful reminder of the extraordinary strides the community has made while deeply integrating into American society. The nomination, which will have to be confirmed by the US Senate, puts an Indian-American in one of the most powerful positions in the American judicial system since the US Court of Appeals sets legal precedent in regions that cover millions of people.

No Israel decision on attacking Iran: Obama

US President Barack Obama has said that Israel has not made a decision yet on attacking Iran's nuclear installations, noting that he still prefers to use diplomacy.
