Opposition parties stage walkout in TN Assembly

The AIADMK, the two Communist parties and the MDMK on Saturday staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Assembly protesting denial of permission by the Speaker to raise some issues in the House.

AIADMK, MDMK members walkout over encounter issue

Opposition AIADMK and MDMK on Tuesday staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Assembly after Speaker R. Avudaiyappan denied permission to raise an issue on the alleged encounter killing of a key accused in the kidnap and murder of two school children in Coimbatore.

Tamil Nadu assembly moves Bill to implement Uniform Education System


Chennai: Tamil Nadu government today moved a bill in the state assembly to implement Uniform Education system in the state in phases which would integrate the different boards and evolve a common syllabusMoved by school education minister Thangam Thennarasu, Tamil Nadu Uniform System of School Education Act 2010 envisaged ensuring "social justice and provide quality education in the schools in the state."

With school education system in the state divided into state board, matriculation, oriental and anglo-Indian schools, there were different syllabi, textbooks and scheme of examination, and each were under control of different boards, it said.

"As a result, the standard of education in these schools are not uniform. Hence, the government is of the view that it is indispensable to evolve a uniform system of school education in the state to ensure social justice, and provide quality education in the schools of the state," it said.

The government had therefore decided to implement Uniform System of School Education, it said, adding, it would be implemented in standards I and VI from the 2010-11 academic year, and in standards II to V and VII to X from 2011-2012.
