Electricity tariff revision rattles Sri Lanka government

Sri Lankan government's decision to raise electricity tariffs to cover the losses incurred by the state-owned power monopoly has created a battle between the current and former power and energy ministers while the opposition parliamentarians protesting the rate hike had plunged the parliament into chaos.

A senior journalist in Sri Lanka, Kusal Perera has requested Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa in-writing to know the number of legislators who have submitted their asset and liabilities declaration as required by law.

The Sri Lankan parliament adjourned today till next Tuesday (16) after the first floor of the building was inundated with flood water due to heavy rains.

Sri Lanka's Speaker to nominate two members to the Parliamentary Council tomorrow

Following the failure of the Opposition Leader and the Prime Minister to nominate members to the Parliamentary Council, the Sri Lankan Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa is to nominate two names from among the parliamentarians representing the minority communities.
