CBI's independent position must be restored: SC on coalgate

In a big embarrassment to the government in the coalgate case, the Supreme Court on Tuesday termed as "very disturbing" the CBI affidavit on sharing its report with the law minister and others and slammed the agency for having kept the court in the dark on the issue.

Chopper scam: CBI names ex-IAF chief SP Tyagi as suspect

Armed with documents from Italy, CBI today named former Air Force Chief S P Tyagi in its preliminary enquiry (PE) into allegations of kickbacks in the Rs 3,600 crore VVIP chopper deal, the second former defence services chief to figure in a scam probe.

CBI team to visit Italy as govt set to scrap chopper deal

The government is sending a CBI team to Italy to probe the chopper deal kickback scandal where the CEOs of AgustaWestland and its parent company Finmeccanica have been arrested on charges of bribery. This comes in the wake of government's move to scrap the Rs 3,546 crore deal for 12 AgustaWestland AW-101 helicopters.

HC moved for probe into woman's rape

Accusing all the state organs of shielding three constables who had allegedly raped a Sri Lankan Tamil woman, her mother has filed a petition in the Madras high court seeking compensation and a CBI probe. The young woman committed self-immolation after the alleged incident and later gave a dying declaration against the cops.

Rathore sentenced to 1.5 years in jail


The sessions court of Chandigarh has dismissed the plea of SPS Rathore and extended his imprisonment to one and half years.
