Sri Lankan President orders probe into shooting of journalist

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today ordered an immediate investigation into the shooting of a journalist attached to a leading newspaper in the country. The police Saturday launched an investigation into the late Friday night shooting of Faraz Shauketaly, an investigative journalist of the English weekly Sunday Leader newspaper. The journalist was shot at his home in Mount Lavinia by three unidentified men, the police said. Witnesses have seen three men running away. Shauketaly received injuries in the neck but is in a stable condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the Colombo National Hospital and he is out of danger, hospital sources said. He has reportedly received death threats before but has not made any formal complaints with the police.
