
The Janani Power Plant will be linked to the main grid from today and will provide 24 megawatts of an uninterrupted power supply to Jaffna, Kilinochchi districts and surrounding areas.
Construction of the Kilinochchi-Chunnakam transmission line also took place along with the establishment of the Janani Power Plant.
The lack of connection from the national grid to power the war-torn region was an obstacle for setting up industries and with the connection and the new power plant economic development in the peninsula will be boosted.
President Rajapaksa, who is on a two-day visit to Jaffna Peninsula, is scheduled to participate in several religious programs and commission several development projects today and tomorrow.
Ministers Douglas Devananda, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Rajitha Senaratne, Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara, Northern Province Governor Major General G. A. Chandrasiri, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and President's Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath were also present at the event.
