Main constituent party of Sri Lanka's ruling alliance, Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) yesterday has asked the controversial Minister of Public Relations, Mervyn Silva to resign from the post of Kelaniya electoral organizer.
The SLFP has decided to remove Minister Silva from the post of electoral organizer until the investigations into the murder of Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha member Hasitha Madawala is finished.
Minister Mervyn Silva, who is known for notoriety and media hype, has been accused of the murder by the members of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha which was on a collision course with the Minister.
The party has decided to appoint Gampaha district organizer Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa as the electoral organizer of Kelaniya.
Five suspects have been arrested by the police for the murder and they include several officials of Minister Mervyn Silva's staff.
