Sri Lanka monk party leader praises media for playing the role of the opposition

Leader of Sri Lanka's monk party, Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU), Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thero says the media was playing the role of the opposition in the country and fulfilling the duties of the opposition. Making this comment at an event in Embilipitiya, Ven. Sobitha Thero said the opposition in the country has become defunct and almost non-existent. He has noted that the opposition shouted only to gain power and spoke of toppling the government only for its personal needs. According to Ven. Sobitha Thero, it is the journalists who are fulfilling the duties of the opposition. He has pointed out that many national issues would have been sidelined if not for the media focusing on these issues. The Thero has said that journalists should therefore be brave and act with a vision.
