Sri Lanka Defence Secretary says Judiciary is being used to destabilize country and topple government

Defence Secretary of Sri Lanka Gotabhaya Rajapaksa says certain foreign and local elements were trying to use the judiciary to destabilize the country and topple the government. Addressing the Wayamba Krushi Asiriya 2012, Rajapaksa has said that peace and stability are vital for the country to develop and to attract tourists and investors, but there are attempts to destabilize the country. He has observed that there's a conspiracy by foreign elements to topple the Rajapaksa government. "Foreign elements attempted to pose a challenge to the government through the university teachers and the students, but failed. Now they are attempting to gain their end through the judiciary," Rajapaksa has said. He has explained that the country was facing challenges similar to those faced during the military conflict. According to Rajapaksa, LTTE activists in other countries were attempting to regroup and create chaos in Sri Lanka. He has observed that the President has many challenges from many fronts, but the troublemakers were unable to achieve their goals due to the confidence people had in the President.
