Sri Lanka Chief Justice complains she was verbally abused by members of PSC

Some ruling party members of the parliamentary select committee (PSC) that probed the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake insulted her, the counsels appeared for the Chief Justice informed in writing to the Speaker of the parliament Chamal Rajapaksa. The derogatory comments made in Sinhala language to insult the Chief Justice were also outlined in the letter sent to the Speaker through her lawyers Neelakandan and Neelakandan . The gestures used and mannerisms were totally unacceptable, the letter says. Some ruling party members of the PSC called her a "mad woman", the lawyers wrote. The counsels requested the speaker to take appropriate action against the offensive representatives that insulted the Chief Justice. "We trust you will agree that such behaviour is inappropriate in any circumstances. It must be even more so when the respondent is the Chief Justice of the country and a lady at that," the letter said. Sources say that the said abusive language was used by certain members of the PSC when the Chief Justice decided to quit the probe claiming the PSC was not trustworthy.
