The Speaker urged the parliamentarians to refrain from commenting on the matters related to the parliamentary select committee outside the parliament. The Speaker made this warning when the Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunawardena raised a point on privileges regarding a media interview given by the MP. Minister Gunawardena pointed out that MP Dissanayaka had revealed what was discussed in the parliamentary group leader meetings to media violating the standing orders. "Commenting on matters of the parliamentary select committees is against the Standing Orders and violates Parliamentary Privileges," the Speaker said. Dissanayaka had revealed facts discussed at the parliamentary group leaders meeting on appointing a parliamentary select committee to probe the charges against the Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake. As the MP did not challenge the issue, the Speaker said that the practice must be stopped, or else if such behavior continues he would have to rethink of the MPs to be summoned to the meeting of the parliamentary group leaders.
