Sri Lanka Opposition Leader asks about progress of discussions between government and striking university lecturers

Opposition Leader of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremasinghe has called on the government to inform of the progress made in the discussions with the striking university lecturers. Wickremasinghe has made a statement in parliament asking the government to inform of the steps taken to address the issue.
He has observed that the university lecturers' strike had resulted in the country incurring a heavy loss. He has pointed out that the government therefore had the responsibility to follow a flexible and sensible methodology to solve this problem. "The academic work of the university students has come to a complete standstill for about three months. An uncertain situation has sprung up about the future of hundreds of thousands of children, due to the halt in the marking of the Advanced Level paper and scrutiny. This is a problem that has repercussions for the future," Wickremasinghe has said. Meanwhile, the Federation of University Teachers' Association (FUTA) says that its final decision on whether or not to continue with the trade union action would be announced tomorrow. -->
