Sri Lanka's major Tamil political party, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) says that civilians should be appointed as Governors to the Northern and Eastern Provinces.
TNA Leader, R. Sampanthan had made the request from President Mahinda Rajapaksa during a meeting yesterday.
The TNA Leader had raised the question of resettlement in Sampur and Valikamam and had said that civilians should be appointed as Governors of the Northern and Eastern Provinces. He had added that Tamil speaking civilian officials should be appointed as Government Agents of Trincomalee and Ampara Districts. However, Sampanthan said that the President had responded by requesting the TNA to participate in the proposed parliamentary select committee (PSC) to find a political solution. He observed that the TNA had never denied attending the PSC, but that the previously made commitments should be honored before participating in the PSC. "It was agreed that this matter would be further pursued on the return of the President from his visit to India," Sampanthan said. -->
