A Sri Lankan government minister says that demands should always be made with the right intention.
Housing and Construction Minister Wimal Weerawansa addressing a ceremony to distribute deeds to houses in Colombo said
that everyone including the government would be supportive of just demands and not politically motivated demands. Referring to the strike action by university lecturers, he noted that everyone would support the demand for an increase in the budgetary allocation to the education sector as long as the motives were good. "We would say that the education sector should be allocated 12 percent and not only 6 percent that is being demanded now, but the intention behind making such a demand has to be good," he said. He explained that there are various agendas behind the slogans to win demands by the university lecturers. According to Weerawansa, the trade union action by the university lecturers is politically motivated. -->
