Over 20,000 police deployed for Sri Lanka PC elections

Sri Lanka Police has launched a massive security program to provide security to the provincial council elections that are to take place on next Saturday.
The North Central, Eastern and Sabaragamuwa provinces will hold election on September 08 to elect members for 108 provincial council seats in seven districts of the three provinces. Senior DIG of Elections Gamini Navaratne has said that about 21,000 officers will be deployed for security duties. According to Navaratne, security has been strengthened in transporting ballot boxes, at the voting centers and counting centers. The police have received 76 complaints of election law violations abut they are minor incidents and to the most part the election campaign has been peaceful, the police official has said.
