National list MP Malini Fonseka likely to resign from Sri Lanka parliament today

Sri Lanka political sources say that the actress and national list parliamentarian of the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Malini Fonseka is likely to resign from parliament today. Ms. Fonseka is expected to hand over her resignation to President Mahinda Rajapaksa today.
According to party sources, Mp Fonseka has been requested to resign from the parliament to pave the way for the controversial former Chief Minister of North Central Province Berty Premalal Dissanayaka to enter the parliament. Dissanayaka has consented to abandon the fight for the Chief Minister position with S.M. Ranjith, who has received the most preferential votes at the recently held provincial council elections and thus eligible for the post, under the deal. Dissanayaka is expected to be given a cabinet portfolio soon, sources say. Ranjith is to be sworn-in today as the Chief Minister of the North Central Province, sources added. -->
