The Advisory Committee of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) is to meet tomorrow to decide on steps to be taken following the conclusion of elections to three provincial councils.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told that
the Advisory Committee of the party would meet tomorrow to discuss several issues following the provincial council elections. He said that a decision would be made on appointing group leaders and opposition leaders of the three provincial councils. He observed that the party's stance in supporting the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) in forming the administration of the Eastern Provincial Council would also be discussed at the meeting. He noted that the TNA has discussed on getting the UNP's support to form the Eastern Provincial Council. "However, the party would give conditional support to the TNA since the UNP also has to reach a consensus on several issues with the TNA," Attanayake said. He added that talks between the UNP and TNA on the matter have already commenced.
