Sri Lanka's major Tamil political party, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) says the people in the Eastern Province should not be fooled by false promises of the governing United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
TNA Leader, R. Sampanthan has said that
the only intention of the government was to show the international community that the Tamil speaking people are with them through the votes received at the forthcoming Eastern Provincial Council election. Addressing a TNA election meeting in Trincomalee, Sampanthan has called on the Tamil speaking in the East to cast their votes on September 8th to defeat the government. He has remarked that the government was now engaged in giving false promises to the people in the East to win votes but the Tamil people are determined to win their political rights through non-violent means. The Tamil MP emphasized that the ballot is the correct weapon to defeat the UPFA.
