Sri Lanka's major Tamil party, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has expressed confidence in setting up an administration in the Eastern provincial Council that will be led by the opposition political parties.
TNA Leader R. Sampanthan has said
the TNA and the main opposition United National Party (UNP) together would be able to form an opposition-led administration in the Eastern Provincial Council following next month's election. He has predicted that the TNA was likely to get 13 seats in the Eastern elections and if the UNP wins seven seats, the two parties could join forces and form the administration in the Council. There are 35 seats in the Eastern Provincial Council and a majority would mean over 17 seats. According to Sampanthan's calculation, the TNA and the UNP together would have 20 seats in the Council. Sampanthan has expressed these sentiments during a meeting with the Tamil Welfare Association in Trincomalee.
