Sri Lanka President assures to protect rights of all religious communities

The Sri Lankan government is committed to protect the rights of all religions in the country and respect all religions equally despite the attempts by certain groups to create a religious passion in the society and mislead the people, the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today assured the public.
The President, who is on the campaign trail to support the ruling party candidates in the Eastern Province, addressing public rallies in the towns of Eastern Province this afternoon said it is the responsibility of all Sri Lankans to overcome the challenges before the country without divisions on nationality or religion.

President Rajapaksa attended two public rallies held at the Abdul Majeed Hall in Sammanthurai and at the Greenfield Housing Complex premises in Kalmunai.
The President emphasizing that he is not a president of a single community but the president for all communities in the country, said he has a duty to protect all religions the Sri Lankan public observe.
He also visited the Mohideen Masjid Mosque in Kalmunai and mingled with the devotees present.
Addressing a public rally at the premises of Mineral Sand Limited in Pulmoddai today, the President rejected the allegations that the ownership of the lands will be taken back from the residents and assured to safeguard the land rights of the people.
He will be campaigning in Polonnaruwa district of North Central Province tomorrow. He is scheduled to visit Aththanakadawala, Bakamoona, Hingurakkgoda, and Somawathiya area and hold discussions with the ruling party candidates.
Ministers A.H.M. Fowzie, P. Dayaratne, A.L.M. Athaullah and Nimal Siripala de Silva and political representatives of the Eastern Province attended the public rallies.
