Sri Lanka police chief appeals to public to lodge complaints on shortcomings of police personnel

The Inspector General of Sri Lanka Police has called on the public to lodge complaints on any shortcomings of police personnel.
The IGP has been quoted as saying that the public could forward any complaints related to shortcomings of police personnel, neglect of duty, connections with suspects, accepting bribes, etc., to the police complaints unit. According to the IGP, the police department has initiated many disciplinary inquiries against police personnel who have allegedly brought disrepute to the force. The police department is now carrying out disciplinary action against officers not carrying out their duties properly irrespective of their rank. However, if they plead they are not at fault, they must do so in writing, the IGP has noted.
