Sri Lanka major opposition United National Party (UNP) has planned to hold its 66th anniversary on September 06 in party headquarters Sirikotha under the patronage of party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe.
A UNP spokesman said that the rumors spread by certain elements that the party is to hold an urgent special congress to get constitution amendments passed is wrong. He said the event to be held is the anniversary held annually. Meanwhile the UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has summoned all the party electoral organizers to Sirikotha today to review the organizational work and also to make aware them regarding the anniversary, a party spokesman said. The reopening of the renovated Sirikotha party headquarters damaged in a clash between two groups of party members and the appreciation of party members who served as public representatives for 30 years, will also be conducted in parallel to the conference.
