Sri Lankan authorities have taken steps to strengthen security in the Ampara District of the Eastern Province following a clash between two governing party allies.
Special Task Force (STF) personnel have been deployed to the Addalaichenai area after the clash between supporters of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and Muslim National Congress (MNC).
The STF has deployed regular mobile units along the Kalmunai-Akkaraipattu Road.
The clash has resulted in Ministers Rauf Hakeem and A.L.M. Athaullah trading charges against each other. The STF has stated that security in Addalaichenai has been intensified to prevent any further clashes between the two groups. Monday's clash resulted in damages to vehicles and property belonging to both parties.
