Sri Lanka President inspects renovated housing scheme in Colombo city


Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today made an inspection visit to the renovated Maligawatte Housing Complex to observe the progress.
The President inspected the renovations of the housing scheme and had mutual discussions with the residents.


Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa said 10 dilapidated housing schemes in the Colombo city are being renovated at present.
The city's housing schemes constructed by the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) are being repaired after 40 years at a cost of 339 million rupees.
The Authority has spent 280 million rupees for the renovations of Maligawatte housing scheme, the Minister said.
Sri Lanka State Engineering Corporation carried out the repairs at the Maligawatte Housing Scheme, built in 1973, at a cost of 167 million rupees.
Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna and the Colombo Mayor Mohammad Muzammil accompanied the President in his tour.
