Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ruling party United People' Freedom Alliance (UPFA) today.
The MoU is to be signed between the General Secretary of UPFA Susil Prema Jayantha and the General Secretary of the SLMC M.T. Hasan Ali. SLMC was earlier bargaining for the Chief Minister candidacy, two portfolios of provincial ministers and a bonus seat. However, the government sources say that none of these conditions are in the MoU that is to be signed. The decision to contest under the UPFA has caused a crisis in the SLMC and there was a three hour meeting yesterday and another meeting of the Supreme Council is scheduled for today after signing the MoU.
