Sri Lanka ruling party MP accused of murder could make a statement next month

A Sri Lankan court was informed today that a statement could be recorded next month from the governing party parliamentarian Duminda Silva
who is being accused in the assassination of Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra. Silva's lawyer Hemantha Warnakulasuriya has informed the court today that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) would record a statement in July from Silva who is being treated in a hospital overseas. Warnakulasuriya has told Additional Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne that Silva is receiving medical treatment at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore and that he was now recovering after successful surgery. The lawyer has said that the statement from Silva could be recorded in about a month. The CID at the last hearing had informed court that the case into the assassination has been concluded and any further inquiry could be carried out only after recording a statement from Silva. The 16 suspects who were remanded in connection to the assassination were further remanded till June 26th.
