Senior Sri Lankan Minister for Human Resources D.E.W Gunasekera has called for action against open warrant criminals.
He has told parliament that authorities need to take action against criminals who have open warrants against them but act with impunity.
The Minister has made these comments during his speech during the condolence vote of former parliamentarian and presidential adviser Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra who was killed during a shootout with a group of MP Duminda Silva's supporters. According to Gunasekera, rule of law cannot be upheld in a society where criminals with open warrants against them roam about freely. He has said attention should also be paid to statements made by judges about such criminals. The Minister has called on parliament to take note of the issue of open warrant criminals evading arrest.
