Sri Lanka's governing party ally, the All Ceylon Muslim Congress (ACMC) has submitted a report to President Mahinda Rajapaksa highlighting the problems faced by the Muslim community during and after the war.
The ACMC has noted that agricultural land belonging to the Muslims had been forcibly taken by the LTTE during the war and are yet to be returned to the owners. ACMC Secretary General, Y. L. S. Hameed has said that over 10,000 acres of agricultural land in Batticaloa alone had been taken from the Muslims during the conflict. Hameed has observed that these lands had been taken from the legal owners over two decades ago. The ACMC has called for a Presidential Task Force to be set up to look into the issue of these agricultural lands and other land issues of long-term Muslim IDPs from the North. The ACMC has also asked that a special presidential commission be set up to look into events that had taken place since the inception of terrorism. The party has also requested the government to provide employment according to ethnic ratio since Muslims make up around 8% of the population, but Muslims given less than 4% of state sector jobs. According to Hameed, the Muslims have endured great suffering during the period of the war although they have not been properly acknowledged.
