The United Kingdom says it welcomes the United Nations resolution on Sri Lanka adopted at the Human Rights Council in Geneva last week.
British Foreign Office Minister Jeremy Browne has said today that he is delighted with the achievements of the just concluded 19th UNHRC session that the "UK has worked hard to secure". Welcoming the outcome of the vote on the Sri Lanka resolution, the Foreign Office Minister has said that the resolution underlines the importance that governments across the world attach to supporting lasting peace and reconciliation in Sri Lanka. "We urge the Sri Lankan Government to take the necessary steps to implement the recommendations of their Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission as soon as possible," the British Minister called. He also welcomed the Syria resolution and said the UK will continue to support the work of the UNHRC and ensure that those who are "responsible for human rights violations and abuses are held to account by the international community."
