Sri Lanka President discusses development in Hambantota

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa held a special meeting at the Temple Trees today to discuss the development goals and issues pertaining to the development projects in the Hambantota and Walawa area.

The President met with the relevant ministers and officials to discuss the issues pertaining to Hambantota Harbour, Hambantota Urban Development programme and Walava special zone of the Mahaweli Authority.
The President has instructed the authorities to appoint a committee to handle blocks of land in the area to be acquired by the Urban Development Authority and the Ports Authority.
During the discussion President Rajapaksa has instructed the officials to encourage the farmers to cultivate paddy varieties that could be exported to foreign countries and minimize the usage of chemical fertilizer.
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Irrigation & Water Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, Hambantota parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary of the Irrigation & Water Resources Management Ministry Ivan de Silva, Chairman of Port Authority Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrama, and Chairman of Urban development Authority Nimal Perera also participated in the discussion.
