Sri Lanka Buddhist monks to deliver message to India on ties between the two countries

Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka are to deliver a message to the Indian government reminding the historic ties between the two countries.
The National Sangha Council has decided to hand over a communiqué to the Indian High Commission Office in Colombo this morning highlighting the friendly ties enjoyed by the two countries. The communiqué is expected to highlight many issues where the countries have stood together and calls on the Indian leaders to be mindful of this long standing relationship between the two countries. The Sangha Council is determined to request the Indian government not to hamper relations between the two countries by deciding to support the US backed resolution on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions in Geneva. The request by the Buddhist monks follow the statement made by Indian Premier two days back that the Indian government was 'inclined' to vote in favor of the US backed resolution at the UN Human Rights Council.
