Sri Lanka, Singapore leaders call for enhancing bilateral ties

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is on an official visit to Singapore, met that country's state leaders and held discussions on strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
President Rajapaksa met with the President of Singapore Tony Tang Ken Yam at the President's official residence Istana Palace this morning. Singapore President welcomed his Sri Lankan counterpart with a guard of honor.
During the meeting with the Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, President Rajapaksa has appraised the Premier of Sri Lanka's infrastructure development being carried out throughout the country including the North and the East and the progress of the resettlement activities.




The Singapore Prime Minister, commending the rapid development achieved by Sri Lanka within a short period after defeating 30 years of terrorism, has expressed his government's willingness to support Sri Lankan to become a knowledge hub, especially in the field of IT. Both leaders have focused attention on establishing cooperation in the tourism industry. The Singapore Prime Minister has agreed to provide technical and management facilities for the 2013 commonwealth summit to be hosted by Sri Lanka. He has also expressed willingness to provide training facilities for Sri Lankan public servants in Singapore. Minister of External Affairs Prof. G. L. Peiris, Member of Parliament Sajin de Vass Gunawardena, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal also participated in the discussion.
