Sri Lanka records highest number of child abuse cases last year

Sri Lanka has recorded the highest number of child abuse and rape and cases last year, local media citing police records reported.
The police say there has been a rise in the child abuse cases last year with 1,085 cases of child rape and 1,503 child molestation and abuse cases being reported. According to statistics, the 758 children have been sexually molested and another 745 had been sexually abused. There were nine cases of incest by a family member. Meanwhile, 22 cases of child murders, 54 child abductions, 10 attempted murders and 247 cases of child assault cases have also been recorded last year. The police have said that there has been an increase in incidents related to children last year and during last year, the National Child Protection Authority had received more than 20,000 complaints.
