Sri Lanka opposition political parties to discuss current situation of country in parliament

Opposition political parties in Sri Lanka are to make special statements in parliament today (21) on the current situation in the country following the fuel price increase last week.
The main opposition United National Party (UNP) is to raise the issue of the killing of a fisherman in Chilaw during a protest against the recent fuel price hike. The statement is to be made by Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe under the parliamentary Standing Orders. UNP parliamentarian Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena will raise a privileges issue in parliament following the injuries sustained by him during the UNP protest in Fort last week that came under police tear gas and water cannon attack. Meanwhile, the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) parliamentary group leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake is to make a special statement on the undemocratic acts of the government in the face of people's protests against the increase in fuel prices. Dissanayake is to also speak of the killing of the fishermen, the attack on opposition party protests in Colombo and question about the burnt body found in Torrington Road, Colombo.
