Sri Lanka Archbishop denounces US-backed resolution

Sri Lanka's Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has denounced the move by the United States to support a United Nations resolution against Sri Lanka as an "undue meddling in the sovereignty and integrity of Sri Lanka." In a communiqu� issues through the Chairman of the, Current Affairs Committee of Archdiocese of Colombo, Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando, the Archbishop has said that
the move b certain Western countries is an insult on the intellect of the Sri Lankan public. The Archbishop has expressed the view that the best way to counteract the undue influence is for the government to implement the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC). According to the statement, the Cardinal Ranjith is of the view that the "authoritative reply which we (Sri Lanka) can give to this unwarranted interference is to immediately implement the recommendations of the Lesson Learnt Reconciliation Commission report, which are based on the evidence and submission of the people of our own country." The Archbishop urged the government to take action in implementing the LLRC recommendations without a delay. He has requested the Sri Lankan public to disregard racial and religious differences and line up to fulfill this objective.
