Speaker of the Sri Lankan parliament Chamal Rajapaksa has today adjourned parliamentary sessions early due to the absence of speakers for the committee stage debate on the Petroleum Ministry.
Opposition United National party (UNP) legislators Ravi Karunanayaka and Ajith Perera were not present in the chamber of the House when their names were called to speak in the debate.
The absence of the opposition MPs had resulted in governing party parliamentarians refusing to make their speeches as well.
Parliamentarian A.H.M. Azwar who was in the Chair decided to adjourn the proceedings after the reply made by Minister Susil Premajayantha.
Parliamentary sessions were finally adjourned at 2:35 p.m. The sessions will resume at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow.
