Sri Lanka to build one million houses for low income families

Housing, Construction and Engineering Services Minister of Sri Lanka Wimal Weerawansa says the current administration has paid special attention to providing houses to low income families
.
The Ministry has implemented a project initiated by the President to build one million houses for low income families, the Minister announced.

He has explained that the housing projects are being carried out with the participation of many government institutions and ministries with the National Housing Development Authority.

The government's target for this year was to build 200,000 houses for low income families, Weerawansa has said.

According to the Minister, the government has allocated large sums of money in the 2011 and 2012 budget to build houses for the low income families than during the tenure of the late President Ranasinghe Premadasa who was well-known for his housing construction projects.

Weerawansa said the government is committed to provide a house to every citizen in the country.
